Senegal Demands Corruption Probe After CAF Strips National Team of Championship Title

The Senegalese government has launched a scathing critique of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following a controversial ruling that overturned the 2025 African Championship results. In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Government Spokesperson Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye labeled the decision to strip Senegal of the trophy and award it to Morocco as an act of exceptional gravity that threatens the very foundation of African sports.

The dispute centers on a ruling by the CAF Appeals Committee which Senegal claims is based on a fundamentally flawed interpretation of tournament regulations. Senegalese officials argue that overturning a result earned fairly on the pitch sets a dangerous precedent, suggesting that administrative interference is now superseding athletic achievement.

The fallout has prompted Senegal to demand an immediate and independent international investigation into allegations of corruption within CAF leadership. The government maintains that the credibility of the continental governing body is at a breaking point and that member nations can no longer trust the integrity of its judicial processes.

Beyond the legal battle, the Senegalese administration highlighted the plight of its citizens currently stranded in Morocco following the tournament final. While pledging to restore the honor of its national team through international courts, the government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of its supporters abroad.

Why CAF Internal Processes Are Under Fire

The core of the controversy lies in the “unprecedented” nature of the Appeals Committee’s intervention. Traditionally, match results are considered final unless a clear violation of player eligibility or match-fixing is proven. By shifting the title to Morocco through a regulatory technicality, CAF has opened itself to accusations of bias and systemic lack of transparency, fueling Senegal’s push for a total overhaul of the organization’s governance.
