Senegal Battles To Reclaim Stolen AFCON Glory In Explosive Legal Showdown Against CAF And Morocco

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has officially waded into the fiercest controversy in African football by registering a formal appeal from Senegal to reinstate their status as 2025 African Cup of Nations champions. This high-stakes legal battle follows a stunning ruling by the Confederation of African Football that stripped the Teranga Lions of their title and handed a 3–0 victory to the Moroccan hosts.
The initial crisis erupted during the final match in Morocco when Senegalese players temporarily exited the pitch in protest.
The demonstration was sparked by a disallowed goal and a late penalty awarded to the home side, leading to scenes of chaos that officials later deemed a violation of tournament misconduct and forfeiture regulations. While the CAF Appeal Board originally sided with the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, Senegal is now fighting back on the global stage.
In its filing to the international court on Wednesday, the Senegalese Football Federation demanded that the prior decision be set aside and Senegal be declared the rightful winners. With the world of football watching, the upcoming CAS verdict will determine whether the trophy returns to Dakar or remains in Rabat.
