Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have reaffirmed their ambitious plans to guide Wrexham into the Premier League, insisting that winning the Championship remains a major objective for the Welsh club.

The Hollywood duo, who took control of Wrexham in 2021, have overseen a remarkable rise from the National League to the second tier of English football.

However, their progress towards the Premier League suffered a setback last season when Wrexham narrowly missed the Championship play-offs.

Wrexham finished seventh, just outside the promotion positions, after a 2-2 home draw against Middlesbrough on the final day allowed Hull City to move into the play-off places.

Hull subsequently secured promotion to the Premier League.

Despite that disappointment, McElhenney said the club remains focused on competing for the Championship title and ultimately reaching England’s top division.

He stressed that the ambition is not simply about winning matches but about continuously improving the club.

Reynolds, meanwhile, reflected on how far Wrexham has come since the takeover. He recalled that mentioning the Premier League during his first appearance at the Racecourse Ground was met with laughter, highlighting how unrealistic the goal appeared at the time.

The club’s growing global profile has been boosted by the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary, which has attracted international attention and even inspired visitors to relocate to the Welsh city.

Wrexham will begin the new Championship campaign against Cardiff City, with Reynolds and McElhenney hoping their long-term Premier League dream moves another step closer to reality.
