The Nigeria National League (NNL) has confirmed that its 2026/27 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, as preparations for the new football season gather pace.

The meeting, which serves as one of the league’s most significant administrative events, will bring together officials from across the country’s second-tier division to discuss plans and policies ahead of the upcoming campaign.

According to the league’s management, the Imo State Government has approved the hosting of the event, with Governor Hope Uzodimma commended for supporting the development of football in Nigeria.

The decision reflects the state’s continued commitment to promoting sports and providing a platform for key football activities.

The AGM is scheduled for August 21, 2026, with participating clubs expected to arrive in Owerri a day earlier before departing on August 22.

Representatives from all 36 NNL clubs will attend the gathering alongside senior officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

A number of important issues are expected to dominate discussions during the meeting. These include the framework for the new season, updates to club licensing requirements, and possible amendments to existing league regulations aimed at improving the competition.

League executives believe the AGM will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to review the previous campaign while setting clear objectives for the season ahead.

The discussions are also expected to focus on strengthening the league’s operations and enhancing professionalism across participating clubs.

NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana praised the Imo State Government for accepting the responsibility of hosting the event, describing the support as another positive step for Nigerian football.

He also acknowledged the state’s reputation for producing talented athletes and encouraging youth participation in sports.

The previous edition of the NNL Annual General Meeting was hosted by Kaduna State, making Owerri the latest city to stage the important football gathering.

With the countdown to the 2026/27 season underway, the AGM is expected to lay the foundation for another competitive campaign in Nigeria’s second-tier league.
