Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has condemned the reported arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, and demanded his immediate release.

Adeleke, the candidate of Accord Party, made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, as voting continued in the Osun governorship election.

According to the statement, Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from voting.

The governor said he was informed that the PDP chairman had been taken to an undisclosed location, adding that no reason had been provided for the arrest.

Adeleke alleged that the arrest was part of an attempt to intimidate his supporters and prevent them from monitoring the collation of election results.

He further accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly working with what he described as compromised security agents to restrict the monitoring of results at collation centres.

“This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” Adeleke alleged.

He described the alleged interference with the collation process as an attack on democracy and urged security agencies and other authorities not to allow state institutions to be used to influence the outcome of the election.

Adeleke called for the immediate release of Bisi and other persons he described as political prisoners across Osun State.

“Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force,” the governor said.

The allegation had not been independently confirmed, while details surrounding Bisi’s reported arrest and his current whereabouts remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
