Nyesom Wike Asserts Dominance Over PDP Structure Following Legal Victories

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has declared that his faction maintains a definitive grip on the internal operations of the Peoples Democratic Party. Speaking at the 106th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja this Wednesday, Wike dismissed any notions that his influence within the party had waned.

The Minister’s bold stance comes in the wake of significant judicial developments. On Monday, the Court of Appeal nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan in November 2025. This was further bolstered by a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan that validated the leadership structure under the National Caretaker Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

While Wike indicated a willingness to engage in party reconciliation, he emphasized that his group would negotiate from a position of strength. He cautioned those seeking peace to approach the process with transparency. Addressing Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, Wike insisted that reconciliation terms must be clearly defined and discussed openly rather than through back-channel maneuvers.

Wike also addressed criticisms regarding his role in the current All Progressives Congress administration. He rejected the label of a political mole, pointing out the irony that many of his accusers have officially defected to the APC while he remains a member of the PDP.

Regarding the upcoming National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, the Minister confirmed that all logistical arrangements are complete. He noted that the required fees are paid and the venue is secured. He firmly rejected any proposals to establish a new caretaker committee to satisfy dissenting members, stating that the convention will proceed as planned with open participation.

In response to opponents who intend to challenge the recent rulings at the Supreme Court, Wike remained unfazed. He likened the political struggle to a competitive sport where a clear winner must emerge. He concluded by noting that his camp currently holds the advantage and will continue to dictate the direction of the party’s future.
