The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its National Executive elections for October 3, 2026, with nominations opening on August 17.

Aspirants will have until August 22 to submit nominations, with vetting scheduled for August 31 to September 3.

A statement signed by Mr Frederick Opare-Ansah, Chairman of the National Elections Committee (NEC), said completed nomination forms would be filed from August 23 to 27, with the outcome of the vetting exercise to be published on September 5.

It said appeals against the vetting results would be received on September 6 and 7.

The party has set the nomination fee at GH¢50,000 for the National Chairperson, GH¢30,000 for Vice Chairpersons and GH¢25,000 for the General Secretary.

Forms for all other national positions would cost GH¢10,000, while those for the Nasara, Women and Youth wings would cost GH¢8,000.

Payments would be accepted in cash or by cash cheque at the party’s National Headquarters at Asylum Down.

An aspirant who paid the prescribed fee would receive an official receipt, which would be required to obtain the relevant nomination form.

The statement said nomination forms could also be downloaded from the party’s website, but applicants using that option would still have to pay the prescribed fee and obtain an official receipt before their completed forms could be accepted.

It said the National Elections Committee and National Council were expected to meet on September 10, while the Notice of Poll would be issued on September 14 and posted at the National Secretariat at least one clear week before the election.

The election would be conducted by the NEC under the supervision of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

On eligibility, the party said aspirants must be known and active registered members for at least two years, be of good character and in good standing, and have paid membership dues for at least the preceding two years.

Aspirants must also have paid the prescribed nomination fee and satisfied the National Vetting Committee that they met the requirements for contesting a national office.

For the National Youth Organiser position, an aspirant must be below 40 years.

Each nomination form must be endorsed by at least one member in good standing from each of the 16 regions.

The statement said every aspiring National Executive was responsible for satisfying the NEC that he or she had met all eligibility and qualification requirements.

Members of the NEC would not be eligible to contest. Where a committee member intended to contest, the National Executive Committee would appoint a replacement.

The positions to be contested are National Chairperson, National Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communication Director.

The elections would be conducted in accordance with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574), the statement said.

It said the electoral college, pursuant to Article 10(3) of the NPP Constitution, comprised members of the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional Executive Committees, Constituency Executive Committees and External Branch Executive Committees.

The electoral college also includes members of the National Council of Elders, National TESCON Coordinator, TESCON Presidents from recognised tertiary institutions, 30 National Patrons elected from among themselves and founding members who are signatories to the party’s registration documents at the Electoral Commission.

All NPP Members of Parliament and members of the National Women, National Youth and National Nasara Wings would also form part of the electoral arrangements.

For the National Women Organiser, every female delegate at the National Delegates Conference, including TESCON Women Commissioners, would be eligible to vote.

For the National Youth Organiser, every youth delegate at the National Delegates Conference, including TESCON Presidents from accredited institutions, would be eligible to vote.

The National Nasara Organiser would be elected by the National Nasara Coordinator and Deputies, former National Nasara Coordinators and Deputies, Regional Nasara Coordinators and Deputies, Constituency Nasara Coordinators and Deputies, External Branch Nasara Coordinators and Deputies, and TESCON Nasara Coordinators.

The statement said at least one-third of delegates to the National Delegates Conference must be present to constitute a quorum.

It urged members and prospective aspirants to take note of the timelines and requirements ahead of the October 3 elections.

The NEC is chaired by Mr Frederick Opare-Ansah, with Ms Abena Osei Asare as Vice Chairperson. Its members are Madam Oboshie Sai Coffie, Mr Frank Davies, a lawyer, Mr Anthony Karbo, Mr Salam Ama Mpianimaa Damata, Mr Eric Ntori and the Ashanti Regional Chairman. Mr Evans Nimako is Secretary.

The National Vetting Committee is chaired by Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, with Mr Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Mr Salifu Saeed, Ambassador (Dr) Barffour Agyei-Bawuah, Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Mr Osei Prempeh, Ms Joyce Opoku Boateng and Mr Arnold Boateng as members. Mr Evans Nimako is Secretary.

The committee is mandated to vet all aspirants and recommend the disqualification of any aspirant it determines does not satisfy the eligibility requirements for election as a National Officer.

The Appeals Committee is chaired by Mr Joe Ghartey, with Reverend S.K. Boafo, Mr Anthony Namoo, Mr George Mireku Duker, Dr Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeni, Ms Gifty Ohene Konadu, Mr Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh and Ms Laurette Korkor Asante as members. Mr Augustine Odei is Secretary.

The statement said an aggrieved member or aspirant could submit a written petition against a decision of the National Vetting Committee to the Appeals Committee, which must determine the petition within 48 hours.

A petitioner dissatisfied with the Appeals Committee’s decision may appeal further to the National Executive Committee, whose decision would be final and binding.
