Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has appealed to aspirants and delegates participating in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional executive elections to maintain mutual respect and ensure peace throughout the electoral process.

According to him, the elections have so far been conducted in a calm atmosphere, with aspirants given the opportunity to campaign and delegates freely exercising their right to choose their preferred candidates.

Speaking to the media at Mankessim, where the Central Regional executive elections are taking place, Mr Afenyo-Markin described the exercise as an internal family affair and expressed satisfaction with the absence of violence.

“What I can say is that so far so good. A very peaceful atmosphere. Candidates are campaigning. It’s a family affair. No violence. Mutual respect. That is the beauty of it,” he said.

The Effutu MP said the eventual outcome should reflect the efforts of the various aspirants as well as the choices made by delegates at the polls.

He therefore urged all participants to continue demonstrating restraint, tolerance and respect for one another as the NPP completes its regional-level elections.

Mr Afenyo-Markin said maintaining peace and unity during the exercise would be essential to strengthening the party as it prepares for future electoral contests.
