Nigeria has been officially selected to host this year’s World Toilet Summit that is scheduled to hold in November, 2022.

According to a statement by the deputy director, press and public relations of the Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs Funmi Imuetinyan, the summit is to gather stakeholders and development partners to discuss challenges facing sanitation and hygiene around the world.

The founder of the World Toilet Organisation, Mr Jack Sim, made the announcement during a virtual meeting of water sanitation and hygiene stakeholders and development partners held globally via zoom on Tuesday.

November 19, was unanimously adopted by the United Nations member countries in 2013 to mark the World Toilet Day annually, hence this summit will be an opportunity for Nigeria to receive other members to address its sanitation challenges, Sim said.

Reacting to this development, minister of water resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu said the selection of Nigeria as the host country for 2022 World Toilet Summit was a welcome development and that the summit is coming when the country has made concrete plans to exit from the comity of nations practising open defecation.

The World Bank, UNICEF, Coca-Cola, Guinness Nigeria, amongst other development partners and stakeholders were present at the meeting.
