Nigeria: Evergreen Students Dominate Junior Category at South East Maths Olympiad Grand Finale

Three exceptional students from Evergreen Schools in Enugu have captured the top three positions in the junior secondary category of the South East Maths Olympiad Grand Finale held on March 7 2026. Onwubiko Chimdiebube claimed the gold medal and first place followed by his two schoolmates who secured silver and bronze respectively.
These young mathematicians demonstrated remarkable skill by mastering advanced topics including engineering mathematics the full Lacombe curriculum and the German mathematics syllabus well beyond typical junior level expectations. Their commanding performance left no doubt about their deep understanding and fearlessness when facing complex problems.
The competition organized by the Intervention for South East Education Foundation in partnership with Educare attracted over 11500 participants from the five South Eastern states of Nigeria. It featured rigorous questions designed to test logic creativity and analytical thinking across primary junior and senior categories. The grand finale took place in Enugu with substantial prizes including millions of naira in cash awards scholarships and teacher incentives. Onwubiko’s victory earned him N3 million along with N1 million for his mathematics teacher Chisom Unachukwu whose guidance helped the trio sweep the podium.
