Morocco’s national taekwondo team showcased their prowess at the African Championships, held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from November 5 to 6, by clinching a remarkable eleven medals. The impressive tally included seven gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, reaffirming Morocco’s dominance in continental taekwondo.

On the first day of the competition, Moroccan athletes Ayoub Bassel (87 kilograms) and Fatima-Ezzahra Aboufaras (73 kilograms) seized two of the seven gold medals. As the tournament drew to a close, the remaining gold medals were claimed by Moroccan talents Haitam Zarhouti (-74 kilograms), Soufiane Elasbi (87 kilograms), Soukaina Sahib (46 kilograms), Oumaima El Bouchti (53 kilograms), and Omayma Boumh (73 kilograms).

Morocco’s outstanding performance secured the top position in both the men’s and women’s categories, outshining competitors such as Egypt and Niger in the men’s competition and Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt in the women’s division.

This achievement echoes Morocco’s similar success in the previous year when the national Taekwondo team dominated both the men’s and women’s overall standings at the 2022 African Games, amassing a total of 15 medals. In a regional competition held in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 14 to 17, the Moroccan team displayed their prowess by claiming eight gold medals, three silvers, and four bronzes.
