LaLiga: Lookman takes over Atletico Madrid’s No. 11 shirt

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman will begin the 2026/27 LaLiga campaign wearing a familiar number after Atletico Madrid handed him the club’s No. 11 shirt.

The Nigerian forward joined Atletico from Italian side Atalanta in January and initially wore the No. 22 jersey during the second half of the previous season.

He will now switch to No. 11 following the departure of Argentina international Thiago Almada, who has moved to River Plate.

The change gives Lookman a number he already knows well. During his time at Atalanta, the Nigerian also featured in the No. 11 shirt, making the move a return to a familiar identity at club level.

Lookman made a strong impression during his first months with Atletico Madrid.

Despite joining the Spanish club midway through the campaign, the 28-year-old contributed nine goals and four assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

His performances will be particularly important as Atletico prepare for another demanding season in Spain and European competition.

The club will be hoping the Nigerian can build on his productive start and become an even more influential member of the squad.

For Lookman, the new shirt number could also represent the beginning of another important chapter in his Atletico career.

Having already settled into the team and delivered goals and assists, expectations are likely to increase around his performances in the upcoming campaign.

The Nigerian international will now have the opportunity to make the No. 11 shirt his own as Atletico Madrid begin preparations for the new season.
