Ghana defender Kojo Oppong Peprah says he is eager to take on a new challenge after completing his move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.

The Super Lig club confirmed the signing of the Black Stars centre-back from French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice in a deal reported to be worth more than €10m.

Speaking during his official unveiling at the 1907 Tribune of Chobani Stadium on Saturday, the 25-year-old said the desire to continue improving as a player played a key role in his decision to join the Istanbul-based club.

“I always love challenges in my life. For me, the most important thing is to constantly get better,” Oppong Peprah said.

“I think I can improve further, both in terms of my long balls and reading the game better.

“I am very grateful for the warm welcome. I am very happy to have joined this family. I can’t wait to wear this jersey.

“The most important thing for me is to help my team. What I want most is to enjoy football.”

The defender also highlighted the influence of Fenerbahçe’s supporters, having experienced the atmosphere while playing against the Turkish side for Nice last season.

“Last year, I played against Fenerbahçe with Nice. I know the atmosphere here and how passionate the fans are,” he said.

“That’s why being part of this family is very important to me because I felt that bond between the fans and the players.”

Oppong Peprah revealed that discussions with fellow Ghana international Alexander Djiku helped convince him that Fenerbahçe was the right destination.

Djiku spent three seasons with the club before completing a move to Russian side Spartak Moscow earlier this year.

“I spoke with Alexander Djiku. Hearing nice things from someone who played here had an impact on my transfer,” Oppong Peprah added.

The former IFK Norrköping defender also paid tribute to ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, who remains a popular figure among Fenerbahçe supporters following his successful spell at the club between 2005 and 2008.

“I wish I had direct contact with Appiah. He’s a great legend of Ghana. We only met at the World Cup, but I didn’t know I would join this club,” he said.

Oppong Peprah joined Nice from Swedish side IFK Norrköping last summer and quickly established himself as a regular in the first team.

He made 39 appearances in all competitions and scored once during the 2025-26 campaign, attracting interest from several clubs, including fellow Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg.

Fenerbahçe ultimately won the race for his signature, securing one of Ghana’s most promising defenders ahead of the new season.

The centre-back has also become a key member of the Black Stars setup and was part of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in matches against England and Croatia during the tournament in North America.
