Illegal retail business will not be tolerated — Trade Minister tells foreign investors
Minister for Trade and Agribusiness, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed Ghana’s openness to legitimate foreign investment.
She said foreign investors are welcome to explore opportunities in sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing, contract farming and agro-processing.
However, the Minister stressed that investors must operate within Ghana’s laws as the government seeks to protect local businesses and promote industrialisation.
“I welcome foreign investors to explore opportunities in agribusiness, manufacturing, contract farming and agro-processing. However, our laws must be respected,” she wrote in a social media post on Monday, September 7.
Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said the government’s position is aimed at creating a fair business environment while protecting Ghanaian businesses from activities that violate the country’s regulations.
She added that the government remains committed to driving industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
Her comments come amid ongoing concerns over the involvement of foreign nationals in retail activities reserved for Ghanaian citizens under the country’s laws.
