Ghana Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa pulls Ghanaians out of burning Middle East as the Iran War intensifies

The Ghanaian government has officially completed a high stakes rescue operation to bring its citizens home as the 2026 Iran War plunges the region into unprecedented chaos. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed that every Ghanaian national who sought state assistance has been successfully extracted from Israel and returned to safely. This urgent evacuation comes as the military confrontation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran enters its third week of devastating combat.
The mission was not limited to civilians alone. Several diplomatic staff members from the Ghanaian Embassy in Tel Aviv were also pulled out of the conflict zone, leaving behind only a skeleton crew of essential personnel to handle emergency consular needs.
Minister Ablakwa publicly credited the governments of Israel and Egypt for their strategic cooperation in securing the safe passage of the evacuees across volatile borders.
Upon their arrival in Accra, the returnees were met with an official welcome and a firm pledge from the administration of President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the lives of Ghanaians living in high risk zones.
With the war already triggering global economic shocks and massive casualties, the Minister signaled that the government remains on high alert to launch further rescue missions if the regional crisis continues to spiral out of control.
