Taiwo Awoniyi is on the verge of leaving Nottingham Forest for a new chapter with Coventry City after several seasons at the Premier League club.

The Nigerian striker appeared to bid farewell to Forest supporters following their 2-0 pre-season victory over Brest at the City Ground.

Awoniyi was reportedly given a guard of honour by his teammates after being substituted, further fuelling speculation that his departure is imminent.

Forest manager Olivier Glasner confirmed that Awoniyi received the special gesture from the squad, acknowledging the strong connection between the striker, his teammates and the club’s supporters.

Awoniyi joined Forest from Union Berlin but has struggled to establish himself as a consistent first-choice forward.

His opportunities have become more limited with Chris Wood and Igor Jesus ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite those difficulties, the 28-year-old showed glimpses of his ability towards the end of last season. He scored three goals and registered two assists across his final six appearances, helping Forest secure their Premier League survival.

Coventry City, who are preparing for life in the Championship, are reportedly close to completing a permanent deal for the striker.

The proposed transfer is believed to be worth around £17 million, approximately N31 billion.

With his medical reportedly completed, Awoniyi could soon begin a fresh chapter at Coventry.

The move would give the Nigerian forward an opportunity to play more regularly, rebuild his confidence and rediscover the form that made him an important player during his time at Union Berlin and Forest.
