Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez in a permanent transfer, according to reports.

The deal is understood to be worth £7.5 million, with the 33-year-old set to leave Villa after giving the green light to a move to Stamford Bridge.

A club-to-club agreement was reportedly reached on Thursday, with Martínez agreeing personal terms with Chelsea before the two sides finalised the transfer fee.

The Argentina international is expected to sign a two-year contract with Chelsea, with an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

Martínez’s arrival will add significant experience and competition to Chelsea’s goalkeeping department.
