Barcelona produced an impressive attacking display as they defeated Basel 5-2 in a high-scoring pre-season friendly on Sunday.

The Catalan giants controlled the game for long periods and were rewarded with an early breakthrough in the 34th minute.

Karim Adeyemi put Barcelona ahead after combining with Raphinha, giving the visitors a deserved lead.

Basel responded before the interval, with Jean Doucouré restoring parity in the 43rd minute. The hosts then briefly took advantage of Barcelona’s defensive lapses after the restart, but the Spanish side quickly regained control.

Hamza Abdelkarim restored Barcelona’s advantage in the 49th minute before Lamine Yamal added another goal in the 81st minute.

Basel managed to find the net again through K. Olaigbe in the 84th minute, but Barcelona finished strongly.

Dani Olmo increased the advantage in the 89th minute, while a late goal from J. Bisiwu completed Barcelona’s five-goal haul in stoppage time.

Barcelona’s dominance was reflected in the statistics, with the La Liga side enjoying 72 per cent possession and completing 642 passes at a 92 per cent success rate.

They also registered 25 shots compared with Basel’s six and earned seven corners.

The friendly also gave Barcelona an opportunity to rotate their squad, with several first-team players introduced during the second half, including Yamal, Olmo, Jules Koundé and Pau Cubarsí.

The victory will provide Barcelona with further confidence as they continue preparations for the upcoming campaign, while Basel will take lessons from a difficult outing against the Spanish giants.
