Arsenal edged past London rivals Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates in a lively derby that had plenty of talking points from start to finish.

Chelsea struck first through Morgan Rogers, who capitalised on a Jayden Hato assist in the second minute to give the visitors an early lead.

Arsenal had a goal chalked off shortly after through Riccardo Calafiori, before the hosts eventually found their equaliser courtesy of Kai Havertz, set up by Declan Rice just before the break to send the sides level at 1-1 at half time.

The second period belonged to Arsenal, as Martin Odegaard proved the difference, netting the winner with an assist from Christos Tzolis to put the Gunners 2-1 ahead.

From there, Arsenal showed composure to see out the remainder of the contest, despite Chelsea pushing for a way back into the game.

The match was a feisty affair, producing four yellow cards, including bookings for Tzolis and Rogers for unsportsmanlike conduct, along with cautions for Mario Lacroix and Merino for time-wasting.

Both managers made a flurry of changes as the game wore on, with Arsenal bringing on Gyokeres and Merino while Chelsea introduced Estevao and Madueke in search of an equaliser that never came.

In terms of underlying numbers, Arsenal’s expected goals tally of 2.11 outstripped Chelsea’s 0.34, reflecting their dominance for large spells, while the Gunners also edged possession and created more clear-cut chances across the ninety minutes.
