Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he would be among the first politicians targeted by the opposition if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.

Wike, who spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said his outspoken support for Tinubu’s re-election had made him a prominent target of opposition politicians.

The former Rivers State governor said he was fully aware of the political consequences of his decision to back Tinubu, but insisted that he had no regrets about his position.

“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike said.»

The minister maintained that his support for Tinubu was driven by his conviction that the President should secure another term in office, despite the possibility of a change in political power in 2027.

According to him, his focus has remained on ensuring Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of the personal political risks associated with his stance.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.

Wike also dismissed criticisms over his alliance with the President, saying he had been subjected to intense attacks and name-calling because of his political position.

He said such criticisms would not deter him from supporting Tinubu or confronting those opposed to the President’s re-election bid.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” Wike declared.

The minister’s comments come amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, position themselves against Tinubu.
