Chief Dan Osi Orbih, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has died at the age of 64.

Orbih reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026.
His death was announced by his family in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, on behalf of the Orbih family.

The family said the announcement was made “with profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the almighty God.”

Orbih was a major political figure in Edo State, where he served for several years as chairman of the PDP. He later became the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-South.

His death has since triggered reactions from political figures, including former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who described the deceased as a “prominent Edo son and renowned politician.”

In a condolence message on Tuesday, Obaseki said Orbih played an important role in the development of the PDP in Edo State and Nigeria through his years of political leadership.

“Chief Orbih was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and an influential voice in Edo State,” Obaseki said.

According to the former governor, Orbih’s “long years of engagement in public affairs earned him a place in the political history of Edo State,” describing his death as “a significant loss to the state and the nation.”

Obaseki extended his condolences to Orbih’s family, friends, political associates, colleagues and well-wishers, with particular sympathy to his wife, children and other loved ones.

He prayed that God would grant the family the strength to bear the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.

Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; and other members of his extended family.

The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to keep them in their prayers as they come to terms with the loss.

It added that further details, including arrangements for his funeral, would be announced in due course.
