Gospel musician, Selina Boateng, has shared lessons from her six-year marriage, outlining three things she would do differently and advise people preparing to get married again.

Speaking in an interview on Angel FM, the “Nyame Bohye” hitmaker said patience is one of the most important qualities needed in marriage.

“If I am to advise individuals getting into a new marriage, I would tell them that patience is very important because when you get there, it can be war. I’m not saying this to scare anyone, but I’m speaking from what I know and what I have experienced,” she said.

Selina explained that many people are drawn to the glamorous side of marriage, including elaborate weddings, without adequately preparing for the challenges of married life.

She described marriage as “extremely rough” and said it takes wisdom and understanding to navigate its difficulties.

The gospel musician also called for continuous counselling for couples, rather than limiting premarital counselling to a specific period.

“If I had my way, counselling would not be limited to just six months. It should be a continuous process because marriage is like school. You never really finish learning; at every stage, there is something new to learn,” she stated.

As her third piece of advice, Selina urged people preparing for marriage to be God-fearing and cautioned against allowing peer pressure to influence their decision.

She said people should not rush into marriage simply because they feel they are getting older or believe they need to settle down quickly.

Selina confirmed in 2025 that her six-year marriage to Isaac Berchie, whom she married on December 7, 2019, had ended.

Despite the divorce, she said she feels no shame about her marital status and has not experienced stigma following the end of the marriage.
