Manchester City have made an official approach to Liverpool regarding a potential deal for forward Cody Gakpo, according to BBC Sport.

With just three days remaining before the transfer window shuts, the Dutch international’s next move has become a major talking point around the deadline.

Both City and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on securing his signature, though reports suggest a switch to the Etihad is Gakpo’s preferred option should he depart Merseyside.

Pep Guardiola’s side reportedly reached out to Liverpool on Saturday evening to open discussions over a possible transfer.

The developments come shortly after Liverpool struck an agreement to bring in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, in a deal that could rise to £123million.

Despite this incoming addition, Liverpool are said to want to bring in a further attacking option before green-lighting Gakpo’s departure.

The Merseyside club have also been linked with moves for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace as they look to bolster their forward line.

Gakpo made the switch to Anfield from his boyhood club PSV Eindhoven back in January 2023, and has gone on to register 33 goals across 91 top-flight outings for the Reds.

He was among the goals again last weekend, netting in Liverpool’s draw at Newcastle, before turning provider on Saturday teeing up Alexander Isak as Liverpool were held 2-2 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield under manager Arne Slot.
