Ikogosi Road Race Set for October 31 in Ekiti

By Okiki Oluwasegun

The 2026 Ikogosi Road Race has been scheduled for October 31 as Ekiti State prepares to welcome athletes and spectators for another edition of the 17.5-kilometre event.

The race has received the backing of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whose administration views the competition as part of its efforts to promote youth participation, grassroots development and economic activity.

Organisers are aiming to build on the reputation established by last year’s competition, which attracted praise for its organisation, athlete welfare and timely payment of prizes.

This year’s edition is expected to maintain those standards while providing a stronger platform for athletes.

The route will run from Ilawe to the Ikogosi Warm Spring, giving participants an opportunity to experience one of Ekiti’s notable tourist attractions.

The event is also expected to promote sports tourism and draw attention to the state’s culture and infrastructure.

Businesses in hospitality, transportation, food services and trading could benefit from the arrival of competitors, officials and supporters.

Organisers also expect opportunities for young people in areas such as logistics, media, security and event management.

Local athletes will receive an additional incentive, with a special reward available to the first Ekiti indigene to finish among the top 10 overall competitors.

The initiative is designed to encourage stronger participation and help emerging athletes gain valuable exposure.

Registration for the race is free and available through the event’s official website. With the date confirmed, organisers are hoping the October 31 competition will combine athletics, youth engagement and tourism while creating wider economic opportunities for communities across Ekiti.
