Measure Mahama against Akufo-Addo using inflation, debt and the cedi – Haruna Iddrisu
Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has urged Ghanaians to compare the economic performance of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration with that of former President Nana Akufo-Addo using measurable indicators rather than political arguments.
Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Haruna Iddrisu said President Mahama inherited an economy facing significant challenges and has since recorded improvements in key areas.
“We should do comparative analysis which is evidence-based,” he said.
According to him, inflation, debt levels and the exchange rate are among the indicators that should be used to assess performance.
“What was the level of inflation as of December 2024?… What was the exchange rate of the cedi against the dollar?… Today we have seen some stability in the foreign currency regime and its management,” he stated.
Haruna Iddrisu also said Ghana was previously classified as being in high debt distress but argued that the current administration has made progress in stabilising the economy.
