The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reappointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, ushering in another chapter for the senior national team.

The GFA announced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that it had reached an agreement with the experienced Portuguese coach to continue leading the national team as it prepares for upcoming international assignments.

Queiroz’s previous tenure culminated in Ghana’s campaign at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, where the team reached the Round of 32.

According to a statement on the GFA’s website, the decision was reached following consultations between the Association, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the coach. Both parties agreed on a new mandate set to begin during the next international window.

The GFA, in the statement, expressed confidence in Queiroz’s ability to guide the Black Stars through the next phase of their programme, citing his vast international experience, technical expertise, and familiarity with the team.

The Association said details of the coach’s new mandate, along with the Black Stars’ upcoming schedule, would be announced in due course.

Queiroz would now focus on building a competitive team capable of achieving success in future continental and international competitions.

Ghana would open their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with an away fixture against Ivory Coast on September 24, before facing Gambia in Accra three days later.
