Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has spoken out following his side’s narrow 3-2 loss to Chelsea in their season opener,

acknowledging the effort his teammates put in despite falling short.

The match at Craven Cottage got off to a lightning-fast start, with Joao Pedro putting Chelsea ahead inside the opening minute.

Fulham responded well, drawing level
through a well-struck effort from Joshua King in the first half.

However, Chelsea edged back in front just before the interval when debutant Morgan Rogers converted from close range.

The second half saw Cole Palmer extend the visitors’ advantage shortly after the restart, before Gonzalo García pulled one back for the hosts.

Fulham pushed for a leveler in the closing stages but couldn’t find the breakthrough, allowing Chelsea to hold on and take all three points back to west London.

Bassey, who wore the captain’s armband for the fixture, took to social media afterward to commend his side’s resilience.

He described the performance as a spirited effort, expressing disappointment at not securing anything from the game while thanking supporters for their backing and signaling his belief that the team would continue improving as the campaign progresses.
