Asante Kotoko sign defender Umar Ali on two-year deal

Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of left-back Umar Ali on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season.
The 22-year-old joins the Porcupine Warriors after spending the 2024-25 campaign with Banyias in the UAE Pro League, where he made 21 league appearances and registered four assists.
Ali’s arrival gives coach Eric Tinkler additional options at left-back, while his ability to operate as a left-sided centre-back adds further defensive versatility.
“I am proud to have this opportunity to play for Ghana’s biggest football club,” Ali told the club’s official website.
“Every young boy who has a dream of becoming a footballer here in Ghana always dreams of playing for Kotoko, and I count myself as one of the lucky ones.
“Although I have not played in the Ghana league before, most of the players I have met here have told me what it takes to be successful here, and I am really looking forward to the start of the season.”
Kotoko open their 2026-27 league campaign away to newly promoted Debibi United, with Ali expected to play a key role in the club’s pursuit of domestic honours.
