Late Stephen Keshi to be buried in Illah on July 29

The burial arrangements for late Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, have been made public.

A member of the burial committee, who is also the Delta State Commissioner for Information Mr. Patrick Ukah, revealed that the ceremonies will hold between Thursday, July 28, and Sunday, July 31, 2016.

COACH STEPHEN OKECHUKWU KESHI'S DEATH IS A GREAT LOSS!!!---I EXPRESS MY SINCERE AND DEEP CONDOLENCE.

It was with great shock and deep pain that I received the sad news of the unfortunate death of Coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, a former Coach of the Super Eagles, while in his home in the early hours of today, and before arriving at the Faith Mediplex hospital, Benin City, Edo State, where he was taken to for emergency care.

Indeed one has been so devastated and unable to hold back tears since learning of the untimely death of our indisputable football icon, the inimitable Coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.

As one with whom I had privileged and great friendship from my tender age, I feel extremely sad, especially as Coach Stephen Keshi lost his wife only a couple of months ago. He was undoubtedly a true Patriot, committed, diligent, selfless and altruistic Nigerian, iconic Coach and a well-respected global citizen who made tremendous sacrifices to his country, Nigeria, and the global community at large.

Despite the challenging circumstances he sometimes found himself, he, at all times, exemplified the "I can do" Nigerian spirit, one that made him achieve astounding results in his chosen career.

It gladdens my heart to play host to our dear athletes and officials who have consistently done the nation proud at various international competitions.

2. Nigerian athletes, despite prevailing challenges, have always proven to the rest of the world that the Nigerian spirit is indomitable.

3. On behalf of all Nigerians, I wish to specially express my appreciation and indeed that of the nation to our athletes and officials for the consistency, determination, willpower and penchant for success being witnessed in the sports sector in recent times. I urge the managers of this sector to keep up the momentum.

President Muhammadu Buhari extends hearty congratulations to Nigeria's team at the just concluded Special Olympics in Los Angeles, United States.

President Buhari commends the team for their diligence, dedication and wonderful performance at the games in which they won a total of 71 medals, including 34 gold medals.

Ex-Nigeria, Rayo Vallecano keeper Wilfred Agbonavbare dies of cancer

Former Nigeria and Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper Wilfred Agbonavbare has died of cancer at the age of just 48 years old.

Wilfred played at Rayo from 1990 to 1996 and was also a member of the Nigeria squad which won the 1994 African Cup of Nations and reached the second round while playing their first World Cup that year in the USA. More recently he had worked as a goalkeeper coach, in business and as a porter at Madrid's Barajas airport.
