The Obi of Owa Kingdom, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, His Royal Majesty Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II (JP) OON has honoured one of his subjects and the Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, with a 55-year old elephant tusk. The revered Owa monarch was overwhelmed with joy when Governor Okowa and other members of his executive paid him a courtesy visit at his Owa-Oyibu Palace shortly after the commissioning of the Abavo Central Hospital, Abavo, its access roads and others at Owa-Oyibu on Friday, June 24, 2016.
The traditional ruler flanked by other royal fathers from Ika North East described the governor as a true and worthy son of Owa, Ika nation and Nigeria in general, asserting that since Okowa joined politics, he has contributed immensely in many areas to the development of his people and the society at large.
He said the entire people of Owa kingdom are proud of Okowa for the huge successes he has recorded as a governor in his first one year despite the harsh economic challenge of the state, noting that as an intelligent, focused, selfless and charismatic leader, Okowa has performed creditably well beyond the expectations of Deltans.
He disclosed that he mobilized other traditional rulers and some stakeholders in Ika North East and beyond to campaign seriously for Okowa both before the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries and during campaigns for the April 11 gubernatorial elections because he was strongly convinced in his mind that Okowa was the best man among other contestants to govern Delta State, saying “thank God we voted for the right man, thank God we voted for Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as our governor. In just one year in office, Okowa has put smiles on our faces by constructing our bad roads, by building / equipping our hospitals, by building / renovating our schools, by creating jobs for our children and empowering our youths. We have never had it so good, hence, we are proud and grateful to our dear governor for the good work he is doing not only in Ika land but in different local government areas across the state.
“In recognition of the good job His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has done and he is still doing for us the people of Owa kingdom, I have decided to honour him with a gift of an elephant tusk which has been in the archive of my palace for 55 years. I decided to honour our dear governor this way because if you give him cow he will carry it, the tusk is a special gift from me which I know the governor will value so much. The Owa Royal house and the entire Owa people will continue to support and pray for our great son, Governor Okowa as he pilots the affairs of Delta State.
Speaking in a related development, the Obi of Owa has appealed to the government to construct the Old Owa-Oyibu/ Abavo road and also prevail on the federal government to complete the farm market in Boji-Boji Owa, saying that his people would be very grateful if government grants their requests.
Responding, Governor Okowa thanked Obi Efeizomor for the great support he has been giving to him since he joined politics. He described the royal father as a great traditional ruler who has brought glory, honour and fame to Owa kingdom and Delta State in general. He promised to continue to do his best to move the State forward. He appealed to Ika people not to relent in their support and prayers for him and members of his executive.
