NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION LAUDS GOVERNOR MUAZU BABANGIDA ALIYU’S DIRECTIVE TO EFFECT ANNUAL MEDICAL CHECK-UPS FOR CIVIL SERVANTS IN NIGER STATE

enabulele 1The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Osahon Enabulele, on behalf of the Association applauds the Chief Servant of Niger State, HE Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Talba Minna) for heeding to the wake-up call of NMA in directing the Niger State Civil Service Commission to urgently develop an effective modality of conducting an annual medical check-up for the state’s work force.
 
This unprecedented directive was a spontaneous response to the sudden death of Hajiya Bilkisu Mahmoud, a civil servant in Niger state, who allegedly slumped and later died at the Specialist Hospital while on an assignment at the Government House, Minna (as reported by various media organisations).The Association painfully laments the poor attitude of many Nigerians, including the elites, who place health seeking behaviour at the bottom-most parts of their priority scales of preference. The NMA notes with dismay that the cliché “health is wealth” appears to have little or no meaning among the populace.
