By Joseph Uko Inyang After a stretch of agonizing two weeks, which could be considered the worse in his political campaign, Senator Barack Obama pulled a resounding victory in North Carolina primary. The victory on Tuesday put paid to Senator Hilary Clinton''''''''''''''''s much trumpeted claim that Obama was fading out and evaporated her sudden momentum from previous wins from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Texas. In a speech after the result , which the Illinois senator won by 14 points margin, Barack Obama called his North Carolina primary win a victory against the "politics of division and the politics of distraction." “We have seen that it''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s possible to overcome the politics of division and distraction, that it''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s possible to overcome the same old negative attacks that are always about scoring points and never about solving our problems," Obama said at a victory rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. Referring to Clinton’s boast that her North Carolina’s victory would be a “game-changer”, Obama said, contrary to her expectation,”what North Carolina decided is that the only game that needs changing is the one in Washington, DC.," With 2 points margin, Clinton won narrowly in Indiana, the only other state that voted on Tuesday. The result brings Obama closer to the party’s nomination with less than 200 needed to clinch the much coveted magic number of 2025 delegates. According to an MSNBC count Obama delegates scores stand at 1,876 total compared to Clinton''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s 1,729; both still short of the 2,025 needed to clinch the nomination. They both would look up to the so called party elders or super delegates to make up the difference. Meanwhile, the races still ahead are : 28 delegates at stake in West Virginia in May 13 ;103 delegates waiting for grabs a week later in Kentucky and Oregon; 55 in Puerto Rico on June 1; 31 in Montana and South Dakota on June 3.
