UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein and award winning actress, Sharon Stone to help launch the Peace, Justice and Security Foundation in The Hague.
Monday 5 September 2016, sees the launch of the Peace, Justice and Security Foundation, an initiative dedicated to creating global awareness about peace, justice and security in all age groups and communities with a specific focus on children.
"To achieve all the other goals, we must have peace. It is only when we effectively work together towards a more peaceful environment, address insecurities and hold perpetrators to account, that we can address the entire enterprise of the sustainable development goals," said Florence Olara, the Chair of the Foundation.
The launch will take place in the Hague, Netherlands at a panel discussion in the morning co-hosted by The Hague Talks and a gala in the evening with international guests including UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, His Excellency Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein; the President of the International Criminal Court, Her Excellency Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi; the Director of Europol, His Excellency Rob Wainwright; award winning actress and peace activist, Sharon Stone; UN Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goal 16 - peace and justice and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Victor Ochen; award winning actress Katja Riemann; leading Cyber Psychologist and author of the Cyber Effect, Professor Dr. Mary Aiken; former child soldier, international artist and peace activist Emmanuel Jal; and the Director of the Cybercrimes Research Institute Dr. Marco Gercke.
The gala will also provide a platform to honour the work of four individuals who have dedicated their lives working to advance peace, justice and security for the benefit of others. This year's shortlisted honourees are from the Netherlands, Rwanda and Venezuela.
As a run up to the launch, the Foundation in collaboration with Radio Netherlands Worldwide and African Youth Initiative Network, have launched a youth blog competition. The winning blog will be announced at the gala by UN Global Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goal 16 (peace and justice) and Commonwealth Youth Worker of the year (2015), Mr. Victor Ochen. "To change mindsets, we must start with children and youth by teaching them to be human and act humanely towards one another," said Florence Olara. "The Foundation will be a vehicle for this," she added.
